Abstract
Phra Non Khamluang of King Rama VI has been praised from Royal Society of literature as an ultimate poetry. This article aims to study poetics of Phra Non Khamluang focusing on the concept of the word “Khamluang” in the royal poetics. The study found that, the concept of “Khamluang” in the royal poetics emphasizes on the word “Khamluang” that means “The science of poetry” or “The science of composing Books” that the King wanted the concept to be a guidance, or a good model for composing literary works. The word “Khamluang” also has a meaning of poetry composition by using a variety of words, and composing from the main religious scriptures. There was a Sanskrit verse compounding as well as the composing and translating into Thai language. The study also found that, “Khamluang genre” contains the good teachings of important people for all readers. With the intellect of King Rama VI, “Khamluang genre” has been used as a model for composing texts on poetics so as to show the exceptional genius of the poet.
