The Worldviews of Chinese People’s Diligence in Chinese Idioms

          This study was aimed at investigating the reflection of Chinese people’s diligence in Chinese idioms. Chinese idioms were selected from a dictionary of Chinese idioms if the dictionary defined the saying in terms of diligence or had the words“勤”(qin)“奋”(fen)“劳”(lao)“艰”(jian) or“苦”(ku). The 50 selected idioms were divided into categories based on their theme reflecting Chinese people’s diligence. Themes included showing attentiveness to studies or work, enduring difficult circumstances, use of time, hope and anticipation, waking up and going to bed, eating, torturing oneself, endeavoring to gain knowledge and use of resources.
