Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to research the pressures of Chinese youth demonstrated in the Better Days Movie and to research factors and reasons for the pressures of Chinese youth demonstrated in the same movie which are caused by the rapid and harsh Chinese economy and society changing. This issue is not shown in Chinese entertainment frequently because of censorship law and concern for the country’s image of the Chinese government. This study is a qualitative research based on context analysis in movies and the dialogue of characters. The results are this movie exhibit pressures on Chinese youth including 1) bullying in education institute, 2) pressure on university entrance examination in secondary school students, 3) gap between people of different ages, 4) collapse of the family institute, and 5) overlapping in education. All problems are structural problems created by inequity in society and competition to lift the quality of life by using education to lift their social class.
