The Development of Ability to Write English Vocabulary by Using a Collocation Practice Package from Pictures: A Case Study of Grade 8 Students

Abstract

The objectives of this study were 1) to study the efficiency of the collocation practice package from pictures, 2) to compare the achievement before and after using the collocation practice package through pictures, and 3) to study the students’ satisfaction of the package. The sample used for this study were 19 Mathayomsuksa 2/8 students at one of the secondary schools located in Minburi District area, using a purposive sampling technique. Research instruments included lesson plans, the practice package along with the writing of collocations from pictures, a test of English writing of collocations from pictures before and after using the package, and a satisfaction questionnaire about the package. Statistics used in the data analysis were mean (), standard deviation (S.D.) and percentage (%). The findings of the study revealed that the development of ability to write vocabulary by using the practice package from the writing of collocations from pictures improved students’ performance in writing the vocabulary. The efficiency of the package was rated at 82.28/86.84, which was correspond with the provided criterion of 80/80. 2) The students’ average post-test score after using the package (= 9.84, S.D. = 1.71) was higher than the students’ average pre-test score before using the package (= 5.11, SD = 1.66), at a statistically significant level of .05. Furthermore, the efficiency of the package was rated at 82.28/86.84, which was correspond with the provided criterion of 80/80. Finally, the students reported a high level of satisfaction with the package ( = 4.12, S.D. = 0.10).
