THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE COMPETENCIES FOR THAI TEACHERS IN INTERNATIONAL SHCOOLS IN BANGKOK

This research aims to: 1) study the competencies of Thai teachers ininternational schools in Bangkok, 2) compose a model in developing the competencies of Thai teachers in international schools in Bangkok, and 3) evaluate a model in developing the competencies of Thai teachers in international schools in Bangkok. The processes of this research were 1) to study the competencies of Thai teachers in international schools in Bangkok by interviewing the experts. The collected data were analyzed and explored through the teachers who work for international schools in Bangkok. The data were analyzed by using factor analysis. 2) To compose a model in developing the competencies of Thai teachers in international schools in Bangkok. And, 3) to evaluate a model in developing the competencies of Thai teachers in international schools in Bangkok. The final model in developing the competencies of Thai teachers in international schools in Bangkok was evaluated by nine experts in a focus group discussion.
The results from the study of the competencies of Thai teachers in international schools in Bangkok, in the qualitative research based on an interview, and in the quantitative research based on the factor analysis founded that the competencies were comprised of: 1) educational innovation and technology, 2) team working, 3) language and communication, 4) teacher leadership, 5) professional ethics, morals, and code of conduct, 6) learning management, 7) learning plan, and 8) self-improvement. 2) The Competency Development Model for Thai teachers at international schools in Bangkok obtained from the interview with experts was used as a framework for the composition analysis in order to draft a final model. And,
3) The evaluation of the appropriateness of the draft model was at a high level (X= 4.34). Considering each aspect, this model has an appropriateness at the highest level (X= 3.80-5.00). The evaluation of the model in developing the competencies of Thai teachers in international schools in Bangkok by the nine key informants in a focus group discussion found that the appropriateness was at the highest level (X = 4.67) and the possibility of this model was also at the highest level (X = 4.73).
