STUDY AND DEVELOPMENT PROCESSES OF RICE STUBBLE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL FRIENDLY PRODUCT DESIGN

Abstract

Research objectives are studies and development of agricultural waste. Main material is dried rice stubbles and apply with creating products for environmental purpose. To create benenfits and economic value and increase value of dried rice stubbles in agricultural areas. The research takes place in Angthong, Ayutthaya and Suphanburi provinces and collect information from Experts and professionals. Dried rice stubble will be compressed and develop products from dried rice stubbles with Local Thai knowledge wisdom Regarding to research result, 1
) Physical appearance of dried rice stubbles : Rice stubble is main part of rice plant. It’s hard and tough. It’s suitable for developing products which can be useful for example planting, Wood substitutes and home decoration. 2) Studies and benefit development: Natural adhesive material are starch adhesive, sap from White-popinac, Rubber tree latex are suitable adhesive because of light weight and strong. Production : It can be self-assembly product and reduce cost of production by plate pressing and extrusion. After that, researcher develop products by taking material + adhesive in 70:30 ratio and develop it to products from dried rice stubbles with local Thai knowledge and wisdom and home decoration design. Researcher evaluated products from dried rice stubbles and summarize into 55 patterns. Researcher selected 5 patterns with Reverse Engineering theory and design in 3D computer programs to create realistic design. After that, take final designs to evaluate by experts, production group and consumers. Result from evaluation divided to 5 aspects, respectively from most to least : The form second, Creativity (x=4.44, S.D=0.58) Suitable material (x=4.33, S.D=0.58) Production process (x=4.33, S.D=0.58) Beauty (x=4.22, S.D=0.58) and Utilization (x=3.89, S.D=0.58)
