Moral Decline in the Buddhist Sangha and the Erosion of Public Faith : A Restorative Approach Based on the Vinaya

Abstract

This academic article aims to study the problem of the decline of morality within the Thai Sangha institution and its impact on public faith. It examines various factors such as financial scandals, inappropriate conduct, and gaps in Sangha administration. It analyzes structural causes including the lack of education in the Vinaya, non-transparent management, and material attachment. The article also proposes restorative measures based on the principles of the Vinaya, Dhamma education, and the establishment of transparent administrative systems to restore faith and strengthen the stability of the Sangha institution in contemporary Thai society.
