THE DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF CERAMIC DATABASE FROM PONG TAKHOB ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE, AMPHOE WANG MUANG, CHANGWAT SARABURI

Abstract

This paper is focused on designing and developing a ceramics database that is standardized and appropriate for archaeological research in Thailand. The computer software used for developing the database is Microsoft Access 2007. The samples studied are pottery fragments excavated from the archaeological site of Ban Pong Takhob, Tambon Wang Muang, Amphoe Wang Muang, ChangwatSaraburi, Central Thailand.

Upon testing, the database developed during this research, was found to be a useful tool that can satisfactorily manage the sample used in the current study. In addition, some suggestions for archaeological research were also obtained from this research. These are as follows; the first is the goal of an archaeological research project and the well pre- designed data collecting as well as data recording techniques that are important determinants of the database applicability and quality, the second is utilizing databases can lead to a standard data collecting, recording, managing procedures in archaeological research. Finally the limitation of database utilization may occur if the knowledge of the user, computer technology resources, and financial support are limited
