A MANAGEMENT OF THE STORAGE ROOM FOR ARCHAEOLOGICAL ARTIFACTS: MUSEUM SIAM, BANGKOK

Abstract

A ‘museum storage room’ is a place to collect evidence and sources and to research the importance of research in various fields. As well as a learning resource in the form, if a museum inventory is accurate and appropriate to the nature of the museum, it could take advantage of the accumulated material continuously. Nevertheless, problems about the current ‘inventory management’ and artifacts still remain regarding the guidelines for the management of such artifacts and museum storage formats in relation to the area concerned. The author believes that these guidelines should be considered in the study of museum storage management.

This paper reports on the model for the appropriate formats and guidelines for the management of the storage room for the archaeological objects at Museum Siam, Bangkok. This model for learning and conserving suggests that a storage room should comprise of three sections. The first section is a learning area for exhibitions and learning activities. The second section is a conservative area for studying conservation methods while the third is a restricted storage room.
