Development of a Supporting System for Face-to-Face Supplementary Seminar with the Use of Audio-Visual Media via Computer Network for Master’s Degree Students of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to (1) develop a supporting system for face-to-face supplementary seminar with the use of audio-visual media via computer network for master’s degree students of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University; and (2) evaluate the quality of the developed system. The design of this research was a research and development study.  The research processes were as follows:  Step 1 was a study of documents to obtain the body of knowledge concerning the system and to create a conceptual framework of the system comprising its components and steps; Step 2 was the focus group discussion involving 9 experts to discuss about the conceptual framework of the system.  The research tool was a interview guidelines form.  The research data was analyzed with content analysis.  Then, Step 3 was the drafting of the system based on the conceptual framework as suggested by the experts and Step 4 was the evaluation of the drafted system by 5 experts.  The research tool was a quality evaluation form.  The evaluation data was analyzed using the mean and standard deviation.  Finally, Step 5 was the improvement of the system based on recommendations of the experts until the complete system was obtained.


            Research results were as follows:(1) the developed supporting system for face-to-face supplementary seminar with the use of audio-visual media via computer network comprised of the following components: (1.1) the component of input factors which were the supplementary seminar course, activities plan, consideration of the assigned works for students, and the infrastructure; the component of process of the system which were characteristics of the audio-visual media, the designing of audio-visual media, and the production and uses of audio-visual media; and the component of output factors which were the system evaluation, and the learning achievement evaluation; and (1.2) the system had eight steps as follows: the first step was the consideration of the course description, course objectives, and details of the units in the course in which the system would be applied; the second step was the determination of assigned tasks for the students to perform in the activities plan of the face-to-face supplementary seminar; the third step was the determination of the uses of audio-visual media via computer network; the fourth step was the designing and production of audio-visual media via computer network; the fifth step was the preparation of the activities plan; the sixth step was the infrastructure development; the seventh step was the undertaking of the face-to-face supplementary seminar with the use of audio-visual media via computer network; and the eighth step was the evaluation of the supporting system for face-to-face supplementary seminar; and (2) the quality evaluation of the supporting system for face-to-face supplementary seminar with the use of audio-visual media via computer network, was at the highest level
