The Process of Organizing Learning Activities to Promote Design Thinking Competence of Secondary School Students in the Eastern Education Innovation Area

Abstract
The purposes of this research were to 1) develop the process of organizing learning activities to enhance the design thinking competency of secondary school students in the Eastern Educational Innovation Area. 2) compare the results of learning activities to promote the design thinking competency of students. and 3) evaluate the satisfaction towards learning activities to promote the design thinking competence of secondary school students in the Eastern Educational Innovation Area. The population used in the research consists of 5 secondary schools under the Secondary Educational Service Area Office, District 18 (Chonburi-Rayong). The sample group used in the research consists of 40 fourth-year high school students from Sunthonphupittaya Secondary School, currently studying in the second semester of the academic year 2022, selected by cluster random sampling. The research tools were 1) Learning activities plans, 2) a design thinking competency assessment form, and 3) a satisfaction assessment form. Statistics used in data analysis were mean, standard deviation and t-test
The results of the research were as follows: 1) the processes of learning activities to promote design thinking competency consisted of following steps 1 empathize 2 define 3 Ideate 4 prototype and 5 test. 2) The results of the learning activities aimed at promoting design thinking competency showed that students had significantly higher post-learning academic performance compared to pre-learning, at a significance level of .01. Additionally, students demonstrated significantly higher design thinking competency after learning compared to before learning, also at a significance level of .01. 3) students were satisfied with learning activities to promote design thinking competency at a high level with an average rating of 3.62.
