Abstract

This study investigated cost and benefit of crab aquaculture in marine and brackish water. Twenty participants were categorized into marine and brackish water farmers in Moo 4, Banpatay, Wang Won Sub-district, Kantang District, Trang Province. The data were collected from June 2017 to May 2018 through a questionnaire. The discount rate was estimated at 6%. Project evaluation period is 10 years with sensitivity analysis in three assumptions: 1) the change of capital - the cost increases while the return is stable, 2) the change of return - the return decreases while the cost remains fixed, and 3) the change of capital and return - the cost and the return change simultaneously. For marine water aquaculture, the results showed a total cost of 219,303 baht, a revenue of 270,760 baht and profit of 51,457 baht, net present value of 118,006 baht, a benefit-cost ratio of 1.07 and the internal rate of return of 74% with payback period of 6 years. The brackish water aquaculture, the results revealed a total cost of 200,801 baht, a revenue of 289,330 baht and profit of 88,529 baht, net present value of 396,568 baht, a benefit-cost ratio of 1.24 and the internal rate of return of 79% with payback period of 3.7 years. As for the sensitivity analysis, the investment of crab aquaculture in marine and brackish water are financially worthwhile for investment.
