A Synthesis Research of Factors Affecting Creative Thinking of Basic Education Students

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to 1) study the characteristics of research and the effect sizes of factors that affected creative thinking, and 2) synthesize the research on creative thinking through the use of meta-analytic approach of Glass’s method. The number of selected research in this study was 25 paper published during 2008 – 2017. The standard index of the study was 88. The research instruments were the coding protocol and the study quality assessment scales. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, Multiple regression analysis, and Hierarchical Linear Model analysis.

The research findings revealed that 1) the standard index of factors affecting creative thinking was 0.767 and the standard deviation was 1.247. The variances of the standard index were significantly differenced through moderator variables. 2) The multiple regression analysis found that seven moderator variables (i.e. dummy variable of Rajabhat University, dummy variable of Test for measures creative thinking, dummy variable of evaluation form of Independent variables, dummy variable of multi-stage sampling, dummy variable of management of leaning, dummy variable of Guilford’s Theory of creative thinking, and research score) were significantly predicted the standard index of factors on creative thinking at .01 level. All moderator variables can be explained the variance of the standard index at 75% (R=.867, R²=.751, f=18.423, p=.000). The results of the multi-level analysis of fixed effect found that the intercept of the effect size was not significant (t=1.648, p= 0.125). The moderator variables (i.e. RSCOR, ALLPAG, SIZE, and DDIHYPO) were affecting the standard index significantly at .01 level.
