A Study of Financial Literacy on Interest and Value of Money Among Grade 11 Students Through Context-Based Learning Approach
Main Article Content
Abstract
This quasi-experimental research aimed to investigate financial literacy regarding interest and the value of money among Grade 11 students taught through context-based learning (CBL). The target group, selected via purposive sampling, consisted of 31 Grade 11 students enrolled in the Economics and Commercial Management program during the second semester of the 2025 academic year. The research instruments comprised: 1) mathematics lesson plans designed under the CBL framework on interest and the value of money, and
2) a financial literacy test focusing on the same topics. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including percentages, arithmetic means, and standard deviations, supplemented
by qualitative content analysis. The findings revealed a clear upward trend in students' mean financial literacy scores following CBL instruction. The mean scores rose from 56.30% before instruction to 58.45% during instruction and reached 79.93% after instruction. Regarding financial knowledge and financial behavior, the mean scores increased steadily across all measurement phases. Conversely, financial attitude scores experienced a temporary decline during instruction but ultimately surpassed both pre- and mid-instruction levels by the end of the intervention. This study suggests that CBL provides students with direct financial experiences through realistic scenarios, thereby supporting their personal financial decision-making and planning.
