The Training Model Development for Early Childhood Educational Personnel to Enhance Psychological Characteristic and Health Care Behaviors for Early Childhood in the COVID-19 Situation
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aimed to (1) develop a training model to enhance the psychological characteristics and health care behaviors of early childhood education personnel caring for young children during the COVID-19 pandemic and (2) compare these outcomes between an experimental group and a control group before training, immediately after training, and one month follow-up. The participants were 70 early childhood education personnel in Pathum Thani Province during the 2024 academic year. They were selected through stratified sampling by institutional affiliation and randomly assigned to the experimental and control groups (35 participants per group). The experimental group completed a two-day training program. The research instruments comprised a four-stage training model (S-A-C-E) and six assessment instruments. Data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA), and repeated-measures MANOVA. The results showed that 1) the developed model was rated highly appropriate by experts (= 4.12), while the training package was rated most appropriate (
= 4.60). 2) Immediately after training, the groups differed significantly in their combined scores across the four psychological characteristics. In the analysis of individual characteristics, the experimental group scored significantly higher than the control group in future orientation and self-control, internal locus of control, and attitudes toward health care behaviors for young children during the COVID-19 pandemic (all p < .001). Achievement motivation did not differ significantly between the groups (F = 0.901, p = .346). At the one-month follow-up, the experimental group had significantly higher overall psychological characteristic and health care behavior scores than the control group (p < .01). No statistically significant change was observed in the control group. These findings support the model’s effectiveness for three psychological characteristics immediately after training and for the overall outcomes at the one-month follow-up, while showing no clear immediate effect on achievement motivation.
