Measures for the Control of Pollution from Gold Mining in Thailand : A Comparative Study with the Laws of the United States of America

Pollution issues from gold mining activities might cause impacts to environment and public health in large scale. However, the current legal measures of Thailand is inadequate to correct the issues compared to the United States of America where implements the pollution control measures by setting financial guarantees of gold mining activities from maximum reclamation cost executed by government organization, encouraging public and local communities participation in all mining process, and balancing of authority by separating pollution control and monitoring organization from permitting organization. All mentioned measures should be able to apply for the improvement of the laws of Thailand.
