LEGAL MEASURES FOR THE CONTROL OF GARBAGEDISCHARGE FROM SHIP OPERATIONS

Abstract

Pollution due to commutation of ships is a major problem that affects the environment and ecosystems in the sea. Currently, maritime transportation has become very common, thus, this leads to a large number of the ships traveling in the sea. Therefore, the emphasis of marine pollution control is extremely crucial and requires cooperation from many sectors. There are three types of pollution that caused by ships: dumping, incidents of navigation and discharge of waste as a result of the operation of ships. The composition of these types of pollution includes oil, noxious liquid substances, harmful substances, sewage, garbage and air pollution. This article will primarily discuss about the garbage generated by the discharge of waste from ship operations, as well as the measures in the international perspective on the pollution control of ships. Furthermore, it will also examine whether the measures in Thailand is in line with the international regulation standards.
