Editorial Statement

Human Behavior, Development and Society (HBDS) is a peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary journal committed to maintaining high academic and ethical standards in scholarly publishing. All manuscripts submitted to the journal must be written exclusively in English, using clear and appropriate academic language to ensure effective international communication.

Submissions are initially screened by the editorial team to assess their relevance, originality, and adherence to the journal’s guidelines. Manuscripts that meet these criteria are then evaluated through a rigorous double-blind peer review process conducted by two to three qualified independent reviewers. Editorial decisions are based on the scholarly merit of the work, including its contribution to knowledge, methodological rigor, clarity of argument, and relevance to the journal’s scope.

The editorial board upholds principles of fairness, objectivity, and confidentiality throughout the review and decision-making process. The journal does not consider manuscripts that have been previously published or are under review elsewhere, and it adheres strictly to established standards of publication ethics.

 

Aims and Scope

Human Behavior, Development and Society (HBDS) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal published by Asia-Pacific International University, Thailand. The journal aims to provide a rigorous academic platform for the dissemination of high-quality research that advances knowledge and understanding of human behavior, social development, and interdisciplinary issues within the humanities and social sciences.

HBDS is committed to publishing original research and scholarly contributions that demonstrate methodological rigor, theoretical relevance, and practical implications for individuals, organizations, and communities. The journal places particular emphasis on research that contributes to sustainable development, social well-being, and cross-cultural understanding, especially within the Southeast Asian context and beyond.

The scope of the journal includes, but is not limited to, the following areas:

  • Humanities and Social Sciences: Interdisciplinary research in fields such as anthropology, cross-cultural studies, and religious or biblical studies, including historical, philosophical, and sociological inquiries that enhance understanding within and across societies.
  • Education and Learning: Studies related to teaching and learning across all age groups and ability levels, including instructional methods, interventions, assessment, educational policies, and their impact on learning outcomes and development.
  • Business and Management Studies: Research addressing human behavior in accounting, economics, finance, management, marketing, and organizational behavior, including topics such as enhancing job satisfaction, fostering positive work environments, and developing personal resilience.
  • Linguistics and Communication: Applied linguistics and language studies focusing on communication, language teaching and learning, language use, and theoretical perspectives on meaning and discourse.
  • Health and Well-being: Research on innovative and cost-effective health care approaches, promotion of positive health outcomes in communities, interventions addressing addictive behaviors, and the impact of health policies and practices.

Through its multidisciplinary scope, HBDS seeks to foster scholarly dialogue, encourage innovative research, and contribute to the advancement of knowledge that addresses real-world challenges at both regional and global levels.

 

Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to Human Behavior, Development and Society (HBDS) undergo a double-blind peer-review process. Submissions are initially screened by the editorial team for scope, quality, and ethical compliance. Eligible manuscripts are reviewed by two to three independent experts, who evaluate their originality, rigor, and contribution to the field. Authors must revise their manuscripts based on reviewers’ feedback. Final publication decisions are made by the Editor-in-Chief, ensuring a fair, confidential, and transparent review process in line with international standards.

Publishing Schedule

Human Behavior, Development and Society (HBDS) is published on a triannual basis, with three issues released each year. Each issue follows a four-month publication cycle as outlined below:

  • Issue 1: January – April
  • Issue 2: May – August
  • Issue 3: September – December

 

Types of Articles

Human Behavior, Development and Society (HBDS) publishes the following categories of manuscripts:

1. Original Research Articles:

Present original, innovative, or novel empirical or theoretical studies using systematic and academically sound methodologies. Manuscripts must clearly state the research problem, objectives, and theoretical framework, with appropriate data collection and analysis. Findings must be clearly presented and discussed, with conclusions highlighting contributions to knowledge, practice, or policy, particularly in societal and community contexts. Typical length: 5,000–7,500 words (approximately 10–15 pages).”

2. Academic Articles (Professional Articles):

Provide critical analysis, synthesis, or discussion of existing theories, literature, or practices, including literature reviews, conceptual papers, or policy and practice evaluations. Submissions should integrate interdisciplinary perspectives, contribute to academic discourse, and offer practical insights for organizations and society. Recommended length: 5,000–7,500 words (approximately 10–15 pages).

Language

All manuscripts submitted to Human Behavior, Development and Society (HBDS) must be written in clear, concise, and academically appropriate English. The journal accepts submissions exclusively in English to ensure broad international accessibility and to facilitate scholarly communication across diverse academic communities.

Authors are expected to use standard academic English with accurate grammar, vocabulary, and style. Submissions should be carefully proofread prior to submission. Manuscripts that do not meet acceptable language standards may be returned to authors for revision before entering the peer review process.

Publication Fee

Human Behavior, Development and Society (HBDS) does not charge any article processing fees, submission fees, or publication fees to authors. All costs associated with the editorial process, peer review, and online publication are fully supported by the publisher. Authors are therefore able to submit and publish their work without any financial obligation.

 

Open Access and Archiving Policy

Human Behavior, Development and Society (HBDS) provides immediate open access to all published content, ensuring that articles are freely available online without subscription or access fees. Readers are permitted to read, download, copy, distribute, and share the content for scholarly and non-commercial purposes, provided that appropriate credit is given to the original authors and the journal.

To enhance the visibility, accessibility, and citation of published works, all articles are assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) through Crossref, ensuring persistent and reliable linking to the content.

Human Behavior, Development and Society (HBDS) is fully supported by Asia-Pacific International University, Thailand. The University provides financial and institutional support to ensure the sustainability of the journal’s editorial operations, peer-review process, and open-access publication.

This source of funding has no influence on the editorial decision-making process. All submitted manuscripts are evaluated solely on their academic merit, originality, and relevance to the journal’s scope through a rigorous peer-review process. Advertising and Direct Marketing

Journal History

Human Behavior, Development and Society (HBDS) was officially established in 2018 (ISSN 2651-1762, Online) and has since been published under its current title. The journal evolved from its former publication, Catalyst (2006–2018), which carried ISSN 1905-6931 (Print) and 2408-137X (Online). This transition reflects a strategic rebranding to better align with the journal’s expanded aims and scope, as well as its international indexing aspirations and publishing standards. HBDS is recognized as one of the first peer-reviewed academic journals among Adventist higher education institutions in Southeast Asia dedicated specifically to the advancement of the humanities and social sciences.
