Abstract

Learning and Transmission Process of Saxophone Accompaniment for Morlam Performance by SamranBuphawat is a qualitative research aimed at 1) studying the learning process of performing saxophone in Morlam and 2) investigating the transmission of performing saxophone in Morlam performance by SamranBuphawat. Interviewing and observing forms were used as research instruments to obtain the data from the key informants include; SamranBuphawat, a group of 7 SamranBuphawat’s students and another 2 informants for general information.


            The findings revealed as follows;


  1. SamranBuphawat started his learning process of performing saxophone in Morlam performance when he was 7 years old. He was interested and attentive to be a professional musician because he was born in a family of Molam and musical profession. Accordingly, he has acquired the knowledge of Morlam performance along with music since he was young.  He started to learn how to play saxophone when he was 17 years old with Corporal KhantornNakham. Having been practicing and improving continuously as well as sharing his experience and learning from professional musicians, SamranBuphawat finally created an instrumental saxophone music handout in Morlam performance by himself with identical uniqueness.  

  2. The transmission process of playing the saxophone in Morlam performance by SamranBuphawat starts making outline for contents and time limited for the course before having the students practice playing the saxophone by following his created handout comprised 4 pieces of instrumental saxophone music in Morlam performance in which he has composed. The process of practicing starts with, demonstrating playing the saxophone by SamranBuphawat to his students and following by the students playing the saxophone after him along with some techniques inserted during the course. At the end of each lesson, there is an assessment to see that whether his students pass the criteria or not.
