Song Discourses of Thepphon Phet-Ubon In four Decades (1968-2008)

Abstract
The research aims to investigate the content and the arts of language applied in the song literature written by Thepporn Phetubon. The total 133 songs investigated in this study are recorded in the four-decade of gramophone starting from the year 1968 - 2008 (2511 B.E. – 2551 B.E.) According to the results, it shows eight following aspects: 1) love, 2) suburban ways of life, 3) social popularity, 4) tradition ad ritual, 5) believe, 6) family, 7) economy and 8) local history. Apart from the eight aspects mentioned earlier, the two points of the arts in applying language through the song writing are: 1) the song composing and 2) the arts of language use. Referring to the arts of song composing, there are three characteristics including the way to entitle songs based on: conveying emotions, presenting the main content of the song,
questioning, and informing careers. Further, there are five styles of song
introduction which are: 1) introducing through the problems, 2) a dialogue-like pattern, 3) a describing pattern, 4) an allusion pattern, and 5) a summarizing pattern. To the ways of song ending, it shows the four patterns: 1) the
appreciation and commitment pattern, 2) adepression pattern, 3) a sarcasm pattern and 4) an encouragement of love toward local community. Through the aspect of the arts of language use in song writing, there are three significant dimensions namely: 1) word, 2) speech and 3) figures of speech. According to the word dimension, it shows seven types of words including: 1) local words, 2) repetitive words, 3) poetic words, 4) abbreviation, 5) foreign words, 6) sound-imitative words and 7) rhyme. Aside from the word dimension, there are five types of speech including: condolence, depression, stimulation, compliment, praise and other general speech. Finally, the figures of speech can be seen through the six categories such as simile, metaphor, hyperbole, personification, onomatopoeia and allusion.
