Behavioral Development of Prisoners as the Buddhist Approaches towards Sangdhambambat Program at the Penitentiary in Amnatchareon Province

Abstract

The research aims to 1) to study the process of developing the behaviour of Sangdhambambat Program at the penitentiary in Amnatchareon province and 2) to study the effects of behavioural development of prisoners as the Buddhist approaches towards Sangdhambambat Program at the penitentiary in Amnatchareon province. The qualitative research and fieldwork have been carried out in this study as well as the methodology employed in the study, has undertaken the documentary and fieldwork interviewing. Findings of the study : The process in developing behaviour of Sangdhambambat project at the penitentiary in Amnatchareon province was the applications of the Buddhist approaches to the process of training the prisoners and to the development of the physical, the verbal and the wisdom in order for realizing the reality of life either of advantages and disadvantages, further, to apply the wisdom obtained for living in the proper ways with the favorable principles by means of focusing on the strengthening of morality and bringing it into the inner mind of the prisoners as well as understanding and practicing the given
disciplines throughout the activities and voluntary in various places. The results of the behavioural development of the prisoners as Buddhist approaches towards Sangdhambambat project at the penitentiary in
Amnatchareon province comprised of four aspects; 1) Mental aspect: the prisoners led the Buddhist principles to their mind, understanding themselves as well as the other, be reasonable and in obedience to the rules, maintaining themselves with the ethics. 2) Social aspect: the prisoners have cooperated closely in working with the other, be happy with serving the society, be conscious of their family, community and society, be trusted and accepted by their own social institutes with the opportunity to enter into the society again. 3) Living aspect: the prisoners were trained with the right professional career for making a living and supporting the family, being a good people after released for the accepting and serving of the society, living with the right livelihood and following the sufficiency economy theory. 4) Social attitude aspect: the prisoners acutely were conscious of the formerly erroneousness done towards the society, be proud of and sure of the community that forgiving them, not treated them as a degenerate and accepting them into the society. Further the prisoners have intended to do good, to serve the society and not returning to harm the society as well.
