A Study on the Pattern of Playing Sa-Law by Kru Prommate Subhasri (Thai wisdom teacher)

Abstract
The purpose of this research was to study the pattern of playing Sa-Law by Kru Prommate Subhasri (Thai wisdom teacher) using qualitative research methodology. Data were collected by analyzing documents, interviews with by Kru Prommate Subhasri and students who have been transferred the knowledge from him directly. Data were analyzed by content analysis and the results of research were presented in form of essay.
The research found that the pattern of playing Sa-Law by Kru Prommate Subhasri (Thai wisdom teacher) in Prasat Wai Song and Sri Mueang Chiang Rai Song is smooth and neat, and both songs have distinctive features as follows 1) There is a maintenance of the pattern , namely 1.1) the playing pattern where the teacher focuses on the tradition of playing Sa-Law and 1.2) the melodic intervals pattern where the teacher focuses on the melody as the main principles and the poem was created to be consistent and correct according to the form principles; 2) There is a preservation of identity, including 2.1) Identity of Lanna folk music, the newly created pattern by the teacher still continue to maintain the accent of Lanna folk songs and 2.2) Identity of Player, the teacher’s pattern is distinguished by a sweet accent that is the teacher’s uniqueness.
