The Images of Emperor Qianlong Appearing in Films and Dramas from Past to Present

Abstract
This research article aims to study the images of Emperor Qianlong which appeared in films and dramas from past to present (1929 - 2023) by means of data collection, analytical study, and discussion through descriptive analysis with suggestions.
The study found that, from past to present, the total number of films and dramas in which the character of Emperor Qianlong appeared was 93. The most frequently found roles and images included being protagonists with positive images in 27 films and dramas in total which were 29.03% of the overall films and dramas. The characteristics of Emperor Qianlong were portrayed as moral, clever, fun-loving, kind, diligent, and so forth. These images conformed to the first image of Emperor Qianlong having appeared in the film Qianlong you Jiangnan since 1929.
Besides, there were 12 images of Emperor Qianlong appearing in all the films and dramas including 1. Moral and fun-loving emperor 2. Cunning emperor and one who intended to possess other people’s wives 3. Unreliable emperor 4. Incompetent, weak, and credulous emperor 5. Emperor who transformed from diligent into a self-indulgent one 6. Clever emperor who knew how to put the right man on the right job 7. Kind father 8. Intelligent young man 9. Unmindful and credulous father who retained power 10. Intelligent young man who was suspicious 11. Suspicious husband who did not trust his lover 12. Clever, funny, and fun-loving husband, as well as his appearance without any images for the first time in 1993.
