The Participation of People in Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, Case Study: Bang Sai Sub-district Municipality, Bang Sai District, Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya Province

Abstract

This research aimed to 1) study participation levels of people in disaster prevention and mitigation: case study of Bang Sai Sub-district Municipality in Bang Sai district, Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya province, and 2) compare personal factors of people participating in disaster prevention and mitigation: case study of Bang Sai Sub-district Municipality in Bang Sai district, Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya province. The samples were 380 people living in the area of Bang Sai Sub-district Municipality. The research instrument was a questionnaire. The data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, F-test and LSD by setting the significant level of .05. The results indicated that: 1) As a whole, the participation of people in disaster prevention and mitigation was at a moderate level. When each aspect was considered, it was found that preparation before disaster and participation during disaster were at a moderate level. The rehabilitation after disaster was at a high level.  2) The differences of genders, education backgrounds, jobs and incomes of people affected the participation in disaster prevention and mitigation at different significance level of .05 as follows : preparation before disaster, participation during disaster and rehabilitation after disaster.
