Development of Japanese Communication Skills for Tourism of Thai BeungBan Khoksalung Community, Phatthananiksom District, Lopburi Province

Abstract

               The objectives of this study were to: 1) study the content and context for cultural tourism of Thai Beung Ban Khok Salung Community, Phatthana Nikhom District, Lop Buri Province 2) develop cultural tourism media for public relations in Japanese 3) develop Japanese communication skills for welcoming Japanese tourists using the media for public relations for cultural tourism and 4) examine the satisfaction of the participants towards the development of Japanese communication skills. The population of this participatory action research was 60 Thai Beung Ban Khok Salung community people responsible for welcoming tourists. The research instruments were focus group discussion report form and satisfaction survey questionnaire about the development of Japanese communication skills. The quantitative data were analysed in terms of mean and standard deviation, and content analysis was used for analyzing the qualitative data. The findings revealed that 1) the needs for the content of cultural tourism media for public relations were local tourist attractions, food and Thai Beung people’s ways of living, 2) the cultural tourism media for public relations developed in the Japanese language were easy to understand, attractive and contained pictures and illustrations, 3) the local people of Thai Beung Ban Khok Salung had basic Japanese communication skills for welcoming Japanese tourists, and 4) the overall satisfaction of the participants towards the development of Japanese communication skills was rated in the highest level with a mean score of 4.69 (S.D. = 0.46).
