Fuzhou Traditional Lacquerware : Creation and Development of Contemporary Jewelry Design

Abstract
Fuzhou lacquerware is a product which combines the crafting skills and the rich wisdom of ancient people. The lacquerware shows the liveliness of traditional lacquer technology which depends not only on the craftsman's refinement, durability for usage and innovation, but it is also closely related to cultural policy, consumer demand, and industrial developments. This lacquerware reflects the evolution of values of time, cultural taste, and social fashion. It becomes a medium of artistic expression. However, Fuzhou lacquer jewelry has been developed by today's society, the form, color, and function. It was not satisfied with modern people's spiritual aesthetic needs. This research titled “Fuzhou traditional lacquerware: creation and development of contemporary jewelry design” aimed to study Fuzhou lacquerware craft in China, including its history, handicraft techniques, diversity of styles, and aesthetics of Song Dynasty. The lacquerware was used as information for designing contemporary lacquerware jewelry. It was suitable for creativity and contemporary cultural beauty. The design of this contemporary lacquerware jewelry was useful for inheriting cultural heritage and the development of traditional lacquerware technology innovation. It added the cultural value for modern jewelry design and generates income for the community.
