Abstract

Chinese porcelain panel painting is a renowned form of ceramic art and a quintessential expression of Chinese ceramic culture. The aim of this study was to analyze the aesthetics, meaning, and artistic language in the works of contemporary Chinese porcelain panel artists. The research employed literature review and field work for analysis through observation and interview form. The findings revealed that the aesthetics in the works of five selected artists reflected a profound appreciation and celebration of the vitality of life and an emphasis on positive, uplifting forces. The symbolic meaning of their works was conveyed through depictions of animals, representing strength, and patterns symbolizing auspiciousness. With bright and harmonious colors, it expressed themes of nature, life, harmony, and strength. The artistic language was primarily reflected in the usage of high-temperature color glazes, blue-and-white porcelain, famille rose techniques, and carving, along with vivid colors to depict the vibrant life and spiritual energy of animals. This research presented the significant implications for the fields of Chinese culture and artistic education, offering a deeper understanding of the aesthetics of animal-themed porcelain panel paintings. It has also provided the valuable reference and guidance for scholars studying this art form.
