Taoist Philosophical Ideas Reflected in Jingdezhen Ceramics

Abstract
This research aimed to 1) examine the impact of Taoist aesthetics on ceramic creation; and 2) investigate the patterns in which Taoist concepts have been represented in Jingdezhen ceramics. This qualitative research used documentary research and fieldwork to collect data for analysis. Taoist aesthetics influenced the creation of ceramics. The three main Taoist esthetics were as follows: 1) following nature; 2) non-attachment and letting go; 3) emptiness and tranquillity; and freedom; 3) truthfulness. Furthermore, the analysis revealed that the patterns of Taoist concepts depicted in ceramics could be categorised into two primary forms: indirect expression, which was an abstract representation, and direct expression, which was a concrete representation.
