The Letters of Saint Louis Marie Grignion de Montfort as Didactic Literature

Abstract
This qualitative research aims to study the values found in the Letters of Saint Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort as a form of didactic literature. The data were collected from The Letters of Saint Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort, comprising 34 letters written between 1693 and 1716 (A.D.), corresponding to 2236–2259 (B.E.). that the values presented in these letters can be classified into four major themes. The first and most prominent theme is faith in God, Jesus Christ, and the Blessed Virgin Mary. This theme comprises four subthemes: trust in Divine Providence, acceptance of suffering for the sake of the Kingdom of Heaven, devotion to God through the Blessed Virgin Mary, and humility before God. The second theme is service to the Church, which is divided into two subthemes: discipleship in Christian life and religious and missionary service. The third theme is renunciation of worldly life, comprising three subthemes: detachment from material possessions, renunciation of family ties, and renunciation of worldly pleasures and even of life itself. The fourth theme concerns charity and service to humankind, including two subthemes: care for the poor and visits to the sick and those in prison. Overall, the study finds that these values are unified and interrelated, with Jesus Christ at the center of faith, love, and redemption, and the Blessed Virgin Mary as the perfect model of complete self-surrender to God’s will. Thus, the letters are not merely personal correspondence; they also function as spiritual teachings that translate faith into a lived way of life characterized by trust in Divine Providence, acceptance of the Cross, and self-sacrificial love and service to God through Mary.
