Development of English Communication Skills Enhancing New Normal Tourism Potential of the Sampaolom Community, Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya Province

Abstract

This study aimed 1) to investigate the need for using English for communication in the new normal of tourism in the Samphaolom community, Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya District, Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya Province; 2) to create a training set for English communication skills in the new normal of tourism in the context of the Samphaolom community; 3) to develop English communication skills in the new normal of tourism in the Samphaolom community; and 4) to examine satisfaction in organizing training to develop English communication in the new normal of tourism in the Samphaolom community. The samples were 30 people from the community using English communication in the new normal of tourism in the Samphaolom community, selected by using purposive sampling: community leaders, government teachers, religious leaders, community scholars, entrepreneurs and tourism people living in the research area. Research instruments were questionnaires to explore the need for using English for communication in the new normal of tourism in the Samphaolom community, a training package, an English test to be used as a pretest and posttest and a satisfaction questionnaire for evaluating English language development training for communication in the new normal of tourism in the community and the training efficiency value. The results found that 1) Samphaolom Community, Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya District, Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. There was a need to develop English communication skills in the new normal of tourism in the topics: Welcoming tourists, Travel in the community, Tourist attractions in the community, History in the community; 2) Samphaolom Community received a training package on English communication skills. New Normal of Tourism that truly reflects the context of the community and finds the efficiency value E1/E2, which is equal to 76.56 / 78.89; 3) The development of trainees after the training was higher than before the training at the statistical significance level of 0.05; and 4) Trainees were satisfied with the training from using this training package at a high level.
