Abstract
The present study attempted to investigate the barriers of democracy promotion, democracy promotion model and approaches for the development of democracy promotion. The theoretical framework employed was action research. The participants consisted of 30 fourth-year undergraduate students majoring in Public Administration, 2015 academic year, North-Eastern University. The purposive sampling method was employed as a tool to select the participants. The instruments used for the data collection were participatory observation, group interviews and analytic induction method. The findings revealed that 1) the students’ barriers of democracy promotion were communication, lack of publicizing, knowledge and understanding about the democracy. 2) The students’ democracy promotion models used were student affairs, and activities for promoting participation. Besides, the approaches for the development of democracy promotion were dispersing knowledge, promoting participation and building the awareness of the democracy. These approaches were basic principle for working as a team and community access. However, it should have more intense measures for publicizing the notion of the democracy among the students. For the students’ behavior development, expressing an opinion towards the democracy should be encouraged.
