Abstract
Since the ancient time, military played an important role in developing the country and making peace in their sovereignty. Each army is trying to develop military leadership that leads to effective teamwork. In general, military leadership development focuses on 1) Attributes which are character, presence, and intellect of a person. 2) Competencies which involves ability to lead, expand influence and create positive environment for the team. The Thai armed forces empathizes 15 characteristics for developing their military leadership: bearing, courage, decisiveness, dependability, endurance, enthusiasm, initiate, integrity, judgment, justice, knowledge, loyalty, tact, unselfishness and vision. The US army aimed to develop their military leaders in various skills such as foreign languages and cultural intelligence so their military personnel can operate in all corners of the world. Military leadership development may lead to business success as well such as a case in Israel. Military leaders also need to adopt some principles to build up effective teamwork. Those are: 1) trust each other 2) work together to complete a mission 3) work and finish the mission quickly 4) reach or exceed the standard level 5) able to work in various challenging conditions 6) learn from experience and be proud to the success. If the leaders do not have competency, their team will probably be likewise.
