Guidelines for Promoting the Decision to Volunteer for Military Service Among Potential Conscripts in Hankha District, Chai Nat Province

Abstract
This Study aims to 1. investigate the decision-making level to volunteer for military service among potential conscripts, and 2. explore guidelines for promoting decisions to enlist for military service among potential conscripts. This mixed-method research collected quantitative data from 50 conscripts who volunteered for military service through a request-based method. The research instrument was a 28-item questionnaire, and the data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The qualitative part involved in-depth interviews with seven key informants who are district military officers (except those in Hankha District) from Chai Nat Province. The data were analyzed using content analysis.
The results showed that 1. overall decision-making to volunteer for military service was at a high level. Among the factors examined, it was found that advancement opportunities and benefits/compensation were rated at the highest level. Honor and reputation and personal interest/reasons were rated at a high level, and the influence of related individuals was rated at a moderate level; 2 guidelines for promoting decisions to volunteer for military service included: 2.1) improving the military's public image by involving active-duty soldiers in community activities to foster closer relationships with the public; 2.2) increasing soldiers' salaries, cost-of-living allowances, and extending benefits to cover their families and 2.3) enhancing recruitment publicity through comprehensive and consistent communication about rights, duties, salaries, benefits, career advancement, and other incentives to attract potential conscripts.
