摘要
สภาพสังคมไทยที่มีการเปลี่ยนแปลงไปอย่างรวดเร็ว ส่งผลกระทบต่อความมั่นคงของพระพุทธศาสนาในวงกว้าง วิกฤตศรัทธาของประชาชนลดอย่างต่อเนื่อง เจ้าอาวาสจึงมีบทบาทสำคัญในการฟื้นฟูศรัทธาของพุทธศาสนิกชนให้กลับมาโดยเร็วที่สุด ภาวะผู้นำของเจ้าอาวาสจึงเป็นกลไกสำคัญในการขับเคลื่อนกิจการคณะสงฆ์ไปในทิศทางที่ดีขึ้น ทั้งนี้ต้องอาศัยหลักพุทธธรรม คือ ความเป็นผู้มีวิสัยทัศน์กว้างไกล (จักขุมา) ความเป็นผู้ชำนาญงาน (วิธูโร) และความเป็นผู้มีมนุษยสัมพันธ์ที่ดี (นิสสยสัมปันโน) จึงจะสามารถบริหารจัดการองค์กรสงฆ์ให้เข้มแข็งได้ ในปัจจุบันพบว่า หน้าที่สำคัญของเจ้าอาวาสประกอบด้วย งานด้านการปกครองคณะสงฆ์ งานด้านการศาสนศึกษา งานด้านการเผยแผ่พระพุทธศาสนา งานด้านการสาธารณูปการ งานด้านการสาธารณสงเคราะห์ และงานด้านศึกษาสงเคราะห์ งานทั้งหกประการจึงเป็นงานสำคัญทางเจ้าอาวาสจะต้องอาศัยทักษะทั้งสามด้าน มาปรับประยุกต์ใช้ให้เกิดประโยชน์ต่อคณะสงฆ์และประชาชนโดยส่วนรวมต่อไป
