Relations of Syntactic Hierarchy Showing Functions of Proper Nouns in News Headlines about Cruise Ships during the COVID-19 Pandemic

Abstract
The objective of this research article is to present relations of syntactic hierarchy showing functions of proper nouns in news headlines about cruise ships during the COVID-19 pandemic. Data were collected from 32 news headlines searching for the keywords COVID-19 and cruise ships on google. The data were analyzed based on the concepts of relations of syntactic hierarchy, proper nouns, and functions of language units particularly noun phrases.
The research results were found that: The analysis found four groups of relations of syntactic hierarchy showing functions of proper nouns classified according to the number of the proper nouns used in each news headline. Twenty news headlines (62.50 %) were found with two proper nouns in relations of syntactic hierarchy. Six news headlines (18.75%) were found with three proper nouns in relations of syntactic hierarchy. Four news headlines (12.50%) were found with four proper nouns in relations of syntactic hierarchy, and two news headlines (6.25%) were found with only one proper noun in relation of syntactic hierarchy.
