BOUYEI TEXTILE OF GUIZHUO, CHINA : THE FUNCTION AND MEANING CHANGE TO ETHNIC SOCIO CULTURE IN THE PROCESS OF COMMODITIZATION

Abstract
The objectives of the research article were 1) to study socio cultural history and cultural identity of Bouyei textiles, 2) to study Bouyei textile in the context of commoditization, and 3) to analyze functions and meaning change of Bouyei textile Using qualitative research methodology By the sample population of Bu Yi people in Guizhou Province and other related persons Using data analysis and descriptive research presentations.
The research results are as follows; 1. Bouyei is one of the minority groups in Guizhou province. Bouyei textiles are the most known for their cultural identity. It relates to the lively ways of the Bouyei people, rituals, ceremonies and cultural ecology. 2. In the process of minority development of China, Bouyei textiles became the center for cultural tourism promotion and cultural products for sale. 3. The above changes have modified the meaning of Bouyei textiles. The new situation also influences the changing of socio-culture of the Bouyei people. They transform their identity from a user of Bouyei textile to be a trader. Hence Guizhou province, especially Xingyi City has become a land of commoditization. At the same time Bouyei textile has become the symbol of Guizhou province and Xingyi city. Besides, Bouyei textiles are now being used for fashion shows in China, internationally, and together present minority identity on the stage. This situation, combined with commoditization, resulted in the traditional invention of Bouyei textile culture.
