AN EMPIRICAL STUDY OF THE EFFECT OF STUDENT PARTICIPATION IN UNIVERSITY GOVERNANCE IN VIEW OF EDUCATIONAL REFORM
Main Article Content
Abstract
With the modernization of higher education and social democratization in this new era, students’ participation in university governance has attracted much attention from society and has become an important part of the reform and development of higher education. Students’ participation in university governance is in accordance with the new governance concept and structure of the modern university system. It is important that the distribution of power provides the fairness and efficiency of higher education among all stakeholders. Against the background of education reform, this paper identifies two types of factors for students’ participation in university governance, which are divided into the internal and external factors. A driving factor scale and a theoretical model for students’ participation in university governance were established. The independent samples T test and one-way ANOVA were used to analyze the differences in university governance among students with different characteristics. Correlation analysis and structural equation modeling were used to investigate the relationship among the six dynamic factors of college governance, including students’ attitude towards subjects, participation needs, self-efficacy, participation in institutions, democratic communication and information feedback. Under the interaction of these factors, the motivation for students to participate in university governance is formed. These causes were analyzed, and countermeasures and suggestions are proposed in order to promote the realization of students’ participation in university governance and provide a reference for students’ participation in university governance reform.
