Participation in Water Conservation of Communities along The Raw Water Distribution Canal in The Conservation Area and Raw Water Receiving Point

Research on participation in water conservation of communities along the raw water distribution canal in the conservation area and raw water receiving point, Its objectives are (1) to study and develop the form of public participation in water management and conservation of water resources in the area of the conservation area and the raw water receiving point (2) to study the problems, lesson learn on water management and water conservation of the community and propose recommendations to lead to policy recommendations in promoting public participation and awareness in water management and water resource conservation in the conservation area and raw water receiving point. This research is conducted both in qualitative and quantitative methods. Sampling groups used in this qualitative research are people who live in water management and conservation of water resources in the area of the conservation area and the raw water receiving point around 1,000 people. And in quantitative research, sampling groups comprised of 5 communities, 12 people in each community, a total of 60 people, which are in the area of Ban Kra Chaeng Sub-district Administrative Organization, in the area of Chiang Rak Yai Sub-district Administrative Organization, in the area of Suan Priktai Sub-district Administrative Organization, in the area of Ban Klang Sub-district Municipality, and in the area of Bangkadi Sub-district Municipality, by using participatory observation in carrying out various activities and in-depth interviews, and Informal interviews with person who are leaders of the communities including group interviews, is a tool for data collection. Using content analysis from qualitative research results and using descriptive statistics which contain with frequency distribution, percentage to summarize issues and prioritize each issue for analysis of public participation. The result of the research found that the level of participation in water management and water resource conservation in the community has a medium level of importance in all areas, including participation in receiving benefits, participation in monitoring and evaluation, participation in operations and participation in decision-making, respectively.
Participation of the people in water resource management and conservation area, the research found that 1. Opportunity and participatory encourage of people is not adequate, especially in joint planning, laying of activities including opinions on water resource protection 2. Lack of clear indicators to assess the participation of the public 3. Policy is not conducive to participate especially the integration between agencies involved in water management. 4. Inconsistent understanding between those involved especially the awareness and visions the importance of the benefits in participation in water management 5.participation of public and agencies involved in water management such as 5.1. Integration of water management and water conservation between government agencies, especially the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority and local agencies. 5.2 integration between government agencies and citizens In particular, the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority should carry out activities relating to education and promoting awareness among the public and youth in the area thoroughly, by integration the relevant departments in the area
