Problems of Social Media According to the Perspective of Kantian Ethics

Abstract

With both advantages and disadvantages of social media, the researcher was interested in conducting the research study of the analytical study of social media communication based on Kant’s theory. The objectives of this study are (1) to analyze morality on social media (2) to analyze Deontological Ethics of Kant and moral problems (3) to analyze social media problems and Kant’s Ethics. The research result showed that, nowadays youths, teenagers, and adults are using Facebook as their first selected social media. All social media problems were started from misconduct using, improper comments, stealing & cheating chances as well as social media addiction resulted in reducing the security of social media using. The online community are open for everyone to exchange information, enjoy convenient communication, Kant sees that some actions may be correct, such as disseminating true information that does not desire compensation or using social media as a guideline to improve the quality of life and affect the user. Others are considered encouragement to fellow humans to be able to apply and improve their lives.
