Student Adaptation in Preparation for Becoming an International Student Exchange

Abstract

The purpose of this qualitative research study is to be able to explain how students' adaptability when conducting international student exchanges in other countries. The participants were 15 nursing students who were international exchange students of Boromarajonani College of Nursing Chakriraj and willing to participate in this study. Data were collected through an individual information questionnaire and in-depth interviews, the field observation, and tape recording, all interview results conducted between researchers and participants. The data were analyzed by using a content analysis approach.   The qualitative approach in this study was divided into 5 majors issue such as; (1) Apply/Planning/Priority (2) Management/Time management (3) Sustain attention/improve English skills (4) Task initiation Learning universal skills and (5) Goal direction/Learning the culture. This research recommends that the lecturers or nursing administrator staff be able to use the results of the study to develop student knowledge in improving student competence to increase academic potential, especially foreign language skills, specially English. Furthermore, the results finding of this study indeed can be used to increase student academic development and carrier in the future, as well as an effort to provide an international exchange program guidance and also support the students when international student exchanges are carried out.
