Process to develop the Potential of self-management on the community-based natural resources and environment forest along the Chi river of Ban Samed community, Nong Teng sub-district, Buriram province
The purposes of this research were: to develop the potential and guidelines for the community-based natural resources and environment management of forest communities along the river, of Ban Samed Community, Nong Teng sub-district, Krasang district, Buriram province, by using Community-Based Research (CBR). The researchers collected the data with depth-interview, group discussion, participatory and non-participatory observation, walkthrough survey, and documentary study, Geographic Information System analysis, problem analysis and synthesis forum.
The results revealed that the community forest along the Chi River bank has faced the problems of deforestation, the misuse of natural resources and environment utilization because there was no rules or regulation in the past. To conserve and rehabilitate the community forest, there are 4 action plans to solve such problems: (1) a plan to develop mechanism for the community-based natural resources and environment management of Ban Samed Community includes of setting the rules and regulations, appointing the committee, founding the fund, and marking the natural resources and environmental conservation area of the community forest along the Chi River bank for 551.74 Rais, (2) a plan to cultivate good moral traits in forest rehabilitation and conservation includes of having annually reforestation activities and trees ordination and composing the song about the village history. Also other activities regarding the natural resources and environmental rehabilitation and conservation were undertaken, aiming to facilitate and cultivate the accountability of people in Samed village., (3) a plan to publicize the information of the natural resources and environmental rehabilitation and conservation of Ban Samed Community, it includes of making the regulation book, notice-board and poster to inform the villagers about the rules, regulations, and prohibition of the natural resources utilization both inside and outside the community (4) a plan to make the 5 local learning stations for resources reservation; Dhamma and forest preservation, diversity of trees and sustainable development, wild potato and sustainable development, wild mushroom and sustainable development, and wild environment and sustainable development.
