The development of a sustainable agricultural system in Ban Lak Metre Community, Tung Khwang , Kamphaengsaen, Nakhon Pathom Province

This research has the purpose to develop the sustainable agricultural system in Ban Lak Metre community, Tung Khwang, Kamphaengsaen, Nakhon Pathom province. We study the development of production in agriculture, production potentiality, limitation in production system, awareness in food safety, problems and opportunity in production development, and also all the factors to increase the learning process in order to change the production model to the sustainable agriculture.

This research is Farmer Participatory Research (FPR) and operates according to Farming Systems Research. All the research methodology including objective definition, area survey to set up the target area of interest, problems analysis and opportunities in development, planning and technology test, knowledge exchange for proliferation and the evaluation of technology learning.

The results indicate that the development of production in agriculture will suggest the decline of community strength in term of both economics, society and environment which is related to the production model. When the farmers has an opportunity in learning of agroecosystem, their potentiality and limitation, this made the farmers become the co-owner of agricultural production development in conjunction with academic scholar.Those agricultural production development are composed of water salinity management for vegetable growth, the improvement of water sprinkler system, good practice guidelines in maintenance of soil. The development in sustainable agriculture in Ban Lak Metre community is systematic development, including agroecosystem, community system, standard system and marketing system. The acceptance and continuous use of new technologies of farmers are depending on the collective learning process of the farmers,which will lead to the self-learning experiences and the equal roles in the team between farmers and academic scholar. Apart from the physical factor and technical factor, it was found that economic factor and social factor also has an influence to the improvement of production model to the sustainable agricultural system.
