การเปลี่ยนแปลงของพื้นที่สาธารณะในเมืองเก่านครราชสีมาพบว่ามี 4 ช่วง คือ 1.การใช้พื้นที่สาธารณะสำหรับเป็นพื้นที่ศักดิ์สิทธิ์และพื้นที่ราชการดั้งเดิม (พ.ศ.2411-2442) 2.ทางรถไฟนำมาสู่ความเจริญเชื่อมต่อกับเมืองเก่า (พ.ศ.2443-2480) 3.การพัฒนาคมนาคมด้วยถนนมิตรภาพนำไปสู่การใช้พื้นที่สาธารณะริมถนน (พ.ศ.2481-2520) 4.การเปลี่ยนแปลงการใช้พื้นที่สาธารณะในเมืองเก่าเป็นการใช้ประโยชน์ใหม่ (พ.ศ.2521-ปัจจุบัน) การวิเคราะห์การเปลี่ยนแปลงการใช้พื้นที่สาธารณะโดยการจำแนก จากบทบาทหน้าที่ของพื้นที่และลักษณะการใช้งาน แบ่งได้เป็นองค์ประกอบของพื้นที่สาธารณะ 7 ประเภท คือ 1. ลานวัด 2. ลานคนเมือง 3. ตลาด 4. ศาลหลักเมือง ศาลเจ้า 5. ที่จอดรถ 6. ถนน 7. สระน้ำ คูเมือง สวนสาธารณะ โดยใช้การทบทวนแนวคิดที่เกี่ยวข้อง การสัมภาษณ์นักวิชาการและผู้บริหารเมือง และการสำรวจแผนที่และภาพถ่ายทางอากาศของเมืองเก่านครราชสีมา พบว่าองค์ประกอบของพื้นที่สาธารณะมีการเปลี่ยนแปลง มี 3 ประเด็นคือ 1.ตำแหน่ง 2.ขนาด 3.การเข้าถึงได้ในองค์ประกอบของพื้นที่สาธารณะ ดังนั้นสรุปได้ว่าปัจจัยที่ส่งผลต่อการเปลี่ยนแปลงการใช้พื้นที่สาธารณะในเมืองเก่านครราชสีมาใน 4 ช่วงเวลา คือ การเมือง เศรษฐกิจ วัฒนธรรม ซึ่งเป็นปัจจัยหลักที่มีความสำคัญ เป็นต้นกำเนิดที่ก่อให้เกิดปรากฎการณ์การใช้พื้นที่สาธารณะในเมืองเก่าตามมา และเป็นปัจจัยที่เป็นแรงผลักดันต่อการเปลี่ยนแปลงทางกายภาพของพื้นที่สาธารณะของเมืองเก่า

Abstract
The Changing of uses of The Public Space in the Old District of Nakhon Ratchasima City have been changed four stages 1. The uses of public space were sacred space and public areas traditionally government (1868-1899). 2. Railroad brought prosperity to connect to the old town (1900-1937). 3. Development of Transport by Mittraphap road led to a public street (1938-1977). 4. Changing of use of The public space in the old city is the new using of Public space (1978 - present). Analysis of changes of uses of the public space has by classification from the role of space and usage. There are elements of the public space in the old city seven categories: 1.Temple court 2. Urban plaza 3. Market place 4. Shrine space 5. Parking space. 6. Road 7. Canal, River &Park by reviewing the concepts theory have involved interviews with academics and executives city. And survey maps and aerial photos of the old city of Nakhon Ratchasima. Found that are elements of the public space in the old city has changed position with three points: 1. Location 2. Size 3. To access the elements of public space. Therefore conclude that the factors affecting changes of uses of the public space in the Old district in Nakhon Ratchasima in four stages that are the political, economic, cultural which are the main factors that are important sources causing phenomenal use of public space in the old town followed. And a factor that is driven to change the physical space of the old city.
