AN ANALYTICAL STUDY ON THE DOCTRINE OF THE THREE CHARACTERISTICS IN ANATTALAKKHANA SUTTA

Abstract

This research article aims to analytical study the Doctrine of the Three Characteristics in Anattalakkhana Sutta. This study is of documentary research. The sources of this study have been collected from documents and research papers related to this thesis. The results of the study were as follows The rule of Ti-lakkhaṇa is an important Buddhist principle which appears in many Suttas, there is different between the wide and narrow of explanation by the events and situations such as Anattalakkhana-Sutta, Dhammacakkapavattana-Sutta, Uppādāna-Sutta, Jūḷasaccaka-Sutta, Ānanda-Sutta, Anicca-Sutta, Dukka-Sutta, Anatta-Sutta, and Aniccatākathā. These suttas have mentioned the reality of aggregates namely, the form, the feeling, the perception, the mental formations, the consciousness, which is existence of the rule of the rule of Ti-lakkhaṇa: impermanence, suffering, and non-self. In summation, all suttas try to point the reality of mental formations following the laws of nature. The person should consider the reality in order to abandon the clinging-aggregates, and then he will achieve the ultimate goal in Buddhism that is the end of all defilements.
