THE HUMAN DEVELOPMENT IN VAJJIPUTTA SUTT

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to 1) study concepts of human development based on Tipitaka, 2) study structures and contents of Trisikkha principle following Vajjiputta Sutta, and 3) analyze the approaches of human development based on Trisikkha principle following Vajjiputta Sutta. This study uses a qualitative research methodology with the data searching of Tipitaka, a sub-commentary, academic documents, and related research.

The research findings were as follows: 1. The concepts of human development based on Tipitaka were to develop the qualities of human from impurity toward virtuous persons and used wisdom according to Buddhism. 2. The structures and contents of Trisikkha principle following Vajjiputta Sutta were the Dhamma principle of human development, divided into 3 items 1) Sīla or morality; means the basic behaviors among human and environment. 2) Samādhi or concentration or meditation means practicing to be strength, secured and resisted impurity, and 3) Paññā or wisdom means understanding in reason, known reality of the world and life. 3. The approaches of human development based on Trisikkha principle following Vajjiputta Sutta divided into 3 approaches as follows: 1) Sīla approach; emphasized the control of behaviors such as body, and living together (Adhisīlasikkhā) 2) Samādhi or concentration approach; emphasized on the correction, developing mind and emotion (Adhicittasikkhā) 3) Paññā or wisdom approach; emphasized
on mindfulness (Adhipaññāsikkhā) Adhipaññāsikkhā were mundane wisdom and transcendental wisdom.
