Innovation and Educational Technology and Contemporary Education

Abstract

This academic article aims to explain the development of information technology that creates innovation and educational technology in the 4.0 era, including Social Media that creates learning network, Internet of Things as an extension that adds more channels to interact between learners with various devices such as mobile phones, devices or teaching materials, which makes learning management respond to individual differences and learn together effectively. This today's education management, is considered as contemporary communication that learners can learn anytime and anywhere, as a two-way communication, as an invisible medium, having a cost to access, cannot be blocked, and day by day, this type of communication will develop rapidly, teachers can organize online courses easily because conversations with students, sending work files, group discussions can be done just by students having a smart phone. In addition, learning materials are developed in the form of convenient and attractive applications without installing complicated software. Moreover, today's Internet network allows access to a variety of information anytime and anywhere, therefore the roles of teachers and learners have shifted from being an instructor (passive learning) to guiding and encouraging learners to actively learn in a way that they are comfortable with (active learning). In addition, we currently have innovations and contemporary technologies such as Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI), e-journals, online learning, etc. as the tools to expand educational opportunities, promote lifelong learning for people in all ages and all professions. Hence, teachers must adjust their teaching and learning style to be in line with the changes and it is essential to realize the teaching of morals and ethics and to develop learner’s life skills that can be applied in order to survive in the digital age appropriately.
