Contemporary Painting : Under the Stratagem of Nakhon Si Thammarat

Abstract

The purpose of this research paper is 1) to analyze and compose an oral traditional community, Sart Duen Sib’s story, the folklore of Jo and contemporary communities in Tha Ngio sub district, Mueang Nakhon Si Thammarat district, Nakhon Si Thammarat to create the visual arts in the community. 2) To analyze the art of Phra Trong Ma’s Vihara in Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan Nakhon Si Thammarat Province from the essence of the structure and symbols of the arts. And 3) To create works through the surreal thinking process in contemporary visual arts to support the stratagem through the contents and symbols that are the identity of the community. From the content of an oral traditional community, people's beliefs and the story of the today’s community, the qualitative research methods and the creating in visual arts were used to collect the relevant documentation. Such as interviewing, photographing and sketching. There are steps for data analysis as follows: 1) Gathered the relevant document information and interview information. 2) Organized the information from the photos. And 3) Designed a sketch to select the sketches with content and concepts in the creation of painting works then present descriptive and analytical research results.
The result showed that Ban Khun Nam community is based on the stories through belief and faith. It is comparable to the art of of Phra Trong Ma’s Vihara in Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan Nakhon Si Thammarat Province by used the method of placing symbols according to the structural-functionalism theory and placing the composition of art in the Tribhum’s style. This study has created works of visual arts with content related to community stratagem through the process of creating paintings and disseminating works through art exhibitions “Under the stratagem of Nakhon Si Thammarat” All in all, the works of paintings act as an intermediary in supporting good stratagem beautifully.
