Short Documentary Creation to Promote the Inheritence and Protection of the Yunnan Opera in China "Where is the Voice of Yunnan Opera"

Abstract

This research takes film and television creation as the practical basic, and it is also based on the theoretical basis of the inheritance and research of traditional Yunnan opera. It analyzes the role of video recording in the inheritance and the protection of Yunnan opera, and points the problems existing in the process of video recording and proposes solutions. The information obtained from this research will be used for a short documentary film, which will be presented through interviews with several traditional artists who continue to sing Yunnan opera, and through the method of “storytelling”. The title of the documentary is “Where is the Voice of Yunnan Opera”.
The results show that Yunnan Opera has a long history of development as a traditional art form within the intangible cultural heritage. It still follows the traditional way in singing and performance. Yunnan Opera has a strong local flavor and unique artistic style, representing the local folk life. The documentary film “Where is the Voice of Yunnan Opera” focuses on the three generations of Yunnan opera inheritors: the old, the middle-aged and the young. The research through the three themes of difficulties, perseverance and inheritance, the performance and the inheritors of Yunnan opera are filmed, and the stories of the inheritors and Yunnan opera are told to the audience to show the current situation of Yunnan opera. The documentary focuses on the current situation of Yunnan Opera and draws people's attention to traditional Yunnan Opera. This research introduces the creation process of the documentary “Where is the Voice of Yunnan Opera”, which includes the idea of selecting the topic, pre-planning, mid-shooting and post-editing. The creation of the documentary will enrich the visual material about traditional Yunnan Opera culture and make more people understand traditional culture, which will also make the next generation, tourists and business owners realize the value, advantages and importance of Yunnan cultural symbols and continue to promote and preserve these traditional cultures. Also, through this creation, many shortcomings in the creation were found, which can further reflect on the way they create and inspire future creations.
