Abstract

In a spread crisis of the COVID-19, the opportunities for learning online through the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) of the learners have phenomenally increased in the educational field throughout the world. This study aims to investigate the trends of MOOC in the three countries of ASEAN including Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand from the day of the COVID-19 epidemic at the beginning of 2020. The information search behavior on ‘online learning’ and ‘MOOC’ of the users is used as the data by determining the stated words in English, Bahasa, and Thai among the three targeted-country areas via the google service called ‘Google Trend’ during January 1st, 2015 to September 31st, 2020 totaling 288 weeks or 69 months. The findings show that the attention of learning MOOC in 2020 is different from the past 5 years statistically significant and tends to increase in all 3 countries. Thailand indicates the highest enlargement with the Correlation Coefficient (r) between ‘online learning’ and ‘MOOC’ at a moderate level; while the MOOC interest areas include the whole areas of Singapore, some areas of the Sumatra Island of Indonesia, and some areas of the Southern Thailand, respectively. Furthermore, this study also shows the reduced interest possibility on MOOC after the end of the epidemic or the return of classroom study. Thus, an interest base adjustment has a possibility of increasing more than the time before the virus outbreak.
