The Effects of Using Serious Games on Grade 11th Students’ Financial Literacy

Abstract
Serious games serve as a tool for simulating financial situations, helping students learn through trial and error and receive feedback from the game system that reflects real-life financial phenomena. Learning through serious games helps students see the impacts of decision-making and enables them to adjust strategies instantly to achieve financial learning objectives. This research aims to study the effects of using serious games to simulate financial situations on the financial literacy of 11th-grade students. The research tools include four serious games developed to simulate financial phenomena and a set of four learning modules. Data collection involves observing students' behaviors and decision-making during gameplay, conducting interviews on their understanding of financial concepts and skills learned from gameplay, and answering questions in post-game knowledge assessment documents. Subsequently, the data is analyzed through content analysis. The research findings reveal that students show improved financial literacy after playing serious games. This research shows that serious games can improve students' financial literacy in terms of both financial understanding and financial skills through gaming. Students will gain hands-on financial experience, becoming aware of the importance of managing personal finances for better financial well-being.
